Hi, my husband and I have been trying for 8 months for baby number 2. We’re now entering our 9th month. I’d like to look into getting some tests done. We’ve no health issues that we are aware of and conceived our first in month one. Has anyone any recommendations? I was thinking SIMs Swords but I saw some mixed reviews. TIA

I went to Therapie Fertility - had all of our tests done there (bloods, semen analysis and hycosy). Then did IUI and IVF with them. I found the team really lovely and there was no waiting times like I’ve heard in other places.
I will say that it can be really subjective and some people love certain clinics whilst others don’t rate them at all. I would suggest just going to a few and having a consult beforehand and then see what one you get a good vibe from. Ask loads of questions. I know the first consultation with TF is with one of their nurses and it was free. Not sure about other clinic but I imagine it’s the same.

@ivfnoclue,
we are nearly 2 years into ttc #2 and are strongly considering going to Therapie. Can I ask how much was the hycosy and the sperm analysis. I know they have the €4495 package for IVF but really scared of all the hidden extra costs as money is very tight.

@Chocaholiclover,
I actually can’t remember even though it was last year but if you go on their website they should have all the prices listed on their section about fertility testing.

hi there, I went with waterstones and couldn't fault them but egg retrieval and transfer is carried out in cork. it really depends what issues are and as poster said above very subjective. if you have health insurance check also what you can claim for as vhi for example only covers certain clinics. if you are looking to genetically test embryos also only some clinics can do that so that might affect your decision. have a look at success rates on their website and check what that means for each clinic. some report success as a positive pregnancy test regardless of the outcome whereas waterstones is live birth. I also found they didn't try to sell me anything that wasn't clinically necessary or that didn't have data to back up its use and that was important to me but equally for others that might be too restrictive. also your gp might be able to order some blood test etc before you go anywhere which could be a lot cheaper to start with. I'd have a few consults as poster said

we went with therapie and we couldn't fault them. we decided to start with them as they were significantly cheaper and decided we would start with cheaper option and re evaluate if it didn't work. fortunately we were successful first time around.

Just outside Dublin, but First IVF in Clane were amazing. I went to Waterstones first and wasn’t impressed, tried unique life also but just felt like another number. Finally tried first IVF in Clane and i could not fault them at all. We had been trying for 3 years at that stage, I got some tests done. They found an infection in my uterus as well as an Auto immune condition that I didnt realise I had. After I did egg retrieval, I was on anti biotics and steroids and managed to clear infection. Then with plan in place, successfully for pregnant with first FET.
Whoever you pick, just do your research and get second opinions. It can be a long process so be kind to yourself along the way.

@SueSue22,
I second this. She isn’t a consultant, and while there are no regulations for fertility clinics in Ireland I feel this clinic can be a bit rogue.
When I went to holles st to have my baby my consultant was absolutely shocked with some of the meds she put me on, with very little evidence behind them. I went there for a second opinion alongside a fertility clinic and I think it caused a lot more stress and hassle than was necessary. As the fertility clinic really didn’t want me taking some of the things she prescribed. But you are in a vulnerable position and you’ll do anything. Now I did have a baby, but my pregnancy had quite a lot of complications and holles st felt it may have been due to some of the medication. They were a lot of immune meds and I was never fully sure exactly why I was on them and it was never monitored. If I’m going for IVF again I don’t think I’ll go back to UNQLife.

@BillyPP,
Very similar experience to yourself here. A lot of very unnecessary medications that put a lot of strain on my system and had terrible side effects on me physically and mentally. No monitoring or follow up when put on different meds & very poor monitoring during IVF cycles. Definitely avoid.

Sorry to hear you’re having trouble TTC. In addition to the above, the process of even getting to the first cycle can be long so can I suggest (if not already) making the changes they advise when starting out on a fertility journey, such as not wearing perfume, throwing out products with endocrine-disrupting chemicals, adjusting your diet (no alcohol, avoiding red meat, reducing salt), taking a CoQ10 supplement etc. to get a head start.

Repromed’s dundrum are fantastic and there communication is brilliant, all the nurses are so nice and caring. I would do consults in a couple of places and go with your gut instinct. IVF is not always the answer, they usually start with IUI or TSI after all initial testing. Best of luck.
